Microsoft sunsetting Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft have announced they are ending support for a number of products, which may affect users of FlightPRO®.

Importantly, from November 30, 2020 Microsoft will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) and organisations that continue to use IE 11 or earlier versions could start to encounter degraded experiences and importantly compromised security.

As a result, this means that we will also discontinue support for Internet Explorer 11, Windows 7 and certain low-resolution screens (1280 x 1024) after FlightPro® v8.7.

From 2021, Ocean also intends to add support for Microsoft SQL Server 2019.

Help is available

The Microsoft post mentions a number of useful resources to help you transition to their latest browser, Microsoft Edge:

For customers using IE 11 to access Microsoft 365 apps and services, or using Microsoft Edge Legacy as their preferred browser, we recommend the new Microsoft Edge and offer a range of support options to help transition.

To begin, we recommend that customers first read this detailed article about how to plan for deployment. The article guides customers through key questions and offers a path forward for major steps in the transition to the new Microsoft Edge.

For customers that still require Internet Explorer 11 to use legacy web applications, Microsoft has added an ‘IE’ mode to their new Edge browser to enable all sites to be used within a single browser.

What does this mean for customers upgrading?

  • FlightPro® version 8.7 (the final release for 2020) will be the last version to officially support Internet Explorer 11, Windows 7, and 1280 x 1024 resolution.
  •  For versions of FlightPro® released after 8.7:
    – Testing of new features and regression will not be performed on such unsupported environments.
    – Incidents raised for these unsupported environments will not be resolved under standard maintenance and support agreements, except at Ocean’s discretion.
